Anita Heiss is from the Wiradjuri nation of central New South Wales, but was born and bred in Sydney. She is an author, a poet, an activist and a social commentator. Anita’s historical novel on the Stolen Generations, Who Am I, Diary of Mary Talence, Sydney 1937 (2002) was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards Young People’s History Prize. Her first, bestselling, commercial novel for women Not Meeting Mr Right was published by Random House and optioned by Essential Viewing. Avoiding Mr Right, the sequel, was part of the 2008 Books Alive campaign. Anita is also the author of the satirical social commentary Sacred Cows (Magabala, 1996) and poetry collections Token Koori (Curringa Communications, 1998) and I’m Not Racist But…(Salt, 2007). Yirra and Her Deadly Demon Dog was published by ABC Children’s Books in 2007. Her new novel: Manhattan Dreaming was published in March 2010.
