Yassmin Abdel-Magied is a memoir author and activist. She was born in Sudan and moved to Australia when she was two. She advocates for the empowerment of youth, women and those from diverse backgrounds. She holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (First Class Honours) and founded Youth Without Borders, an organisation enabling young people to work for positive change in their communities. Yassmin was named Young Australian Muslim of the Year in 2007 and Young Queenslander of the Year in 2010. In 2012 she was named a Young Leader in the Australian Financial Review and named one of Westpac’s 100 Women of Influence. She serves on various state and federal councils.
