Fiona Inglis,
Managing Director & Agent
Following eight years in various publishing roles in Melbourne, Sydney, and London, Fiona joined Curtis Brown in 1993, overseeing the purchase of Hickson Associates in 1999 when she became Managing Director. She was the founding president of the Australian Literary Agents’ Association.
Fiona’s list is diverse, ranging from commercial fiction to memoir to narrative non-fiction. Her clients’ books have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, winners of numerous local prizes, and adapted for stage and screen. She values her long-term relationships with her authors.
She is particularly drawn to fiction with tight plotting, fresh narrative voice, and credible dialogue. Fiona’s non-fiction list tends to be inspirational, educational, and entertaining, ideally all three. Some would say she has antediluvian ideas about grammar and punctuation.
Books Fiona recommends to friends include Mother Mary Comes to Me by Arundhati Roy, Memorial Days by Geraldine Brooks, That Old Country Music by Kevin Barry, Seascraper by Benjamin Wood, Nesting by Roisin O’Donnell, The Friday Afternoon Club by Griffin Dunne, There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak, and anything by Willy Vlautin.
