Meet our team…

Caitlan Cooper-Trent,

Agent

Caitlan joined Curtis Brown in 2016, after previously holding roles at Sydney University Press and the National Library. She currently works with authors who have won the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction, the Aurealis Award for Science Fiction, the Steele Rudd Award, and the Josephine Ulrick National Poetry Prize.

Caitlan is drawn to writing that feels urgent. She particularly looks for literary fiction with a profound sense of tension or characters on the verge, and plot-driven stories exploring subcultures in new and innovative ways.  She enjoys taut speculative fiction, such as I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman, as well as atmospheric suspense and thrillers that surprise. Caitlan loves to read about worlds outside the mainstream and is always looking for stories about class and power. In non-fiction, she looks for personal development that gives us new ways of looking, and narrative works that examine an unsettling question or the most acute relationships in our lives.

A few books Caitlan has loved and wished she’d represented: Veronica by Mary Gaitskill, Monkey Grip by Helen Garner, Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy, The Hunted by Gabriel Bergmoser, Good Material by Dolly Alderton, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, Dare to Lead by Brené Brown, Motherhood by Sheila Heiti, Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams, The Copenhagen Trilogy by Tove Ditlevson, Lonely City by Olivia Laing, Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood, and anything by Annie Ernaux.
