Jim & Millie Rogers

When Jim Rogers was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s aged just 55, it was a devastating blow to a family already painfully well-versed in grief. But with the support of his husband and beloved children, Jim has become a passionate advocate and inspiration for the ever-growing numbers of Australians living with dementia, and those caring for them.

An Ordinary Life is Jim’s memoir, written with his daughter Millie. It recounts a life of heartbreaking loss and extraordinary love. From the death of his adored wife Lorna and being left a young widower raising three small children, to falling in love again with a man, and the challenges of coming out as a gay man in the 90s and forging a new life as a family in Australia.

Throughout it all, Jim has maintained his irrepressible sense of fun, an enduring capacity for love and limitless zeal for life. This is the story of an extraordinary man and a stranger-than-fiction life. It will uplift you while it cracks your heart wide open – and above all, remind you that living well doesn’t mean a life free of challenges, but rather of the grace and courage with which we meet them.
